Ruth Allen and her husband, Timothy have been in the Frederick area for just a few years. Timothy is the pastor at Fredericktowne Baptist Church and Ruth works alongside him in the ministry of the church. They have three children and all attend FEC. Ruth brings a wealth of experience to FEC, having worked in a similar classical program in New Jersey. She is an experienced IEW instructor and will take over the GW department this year! In addition, Ruth is serving on our Board of Directors! |
Annie Averill joined FEC two years ago and jumped into teaching during the 2020-2021 school year. She quickly became a favorite math teacher and 3rd grade 'mom,' assisting with monitoring the classroom, warming up lunches and so much more. She and her husband live in Montgomery County, Maryland and have two children in the FEC program. Annie will spread her wings a bit and take on Latin next year along with leadership responsibilities on our Board of Directors! |
Marielle Avila and her family have been at FEC for three years and during that time, Mrs. Avila has assisted in several classes, grading papers and subbing in when a teacher could not be present. This year, she took the plunge and decided to take on a Latin class. Being a 'master' of several languages, this seems like the perfect fit for her and she is excited to learn along with the students! |
Mrs. Natalie Calis and her family have been at FEC since we opened. Her children have progressed through the elementary school and Natalie has served as a Volunteer, PK teacher and nursery worker. This year, she will be one of our two PK teachers and is excited to be back with the littles learning letters, numbers and doing lots of fun activities! The Calis Family lives in Thurmont, Maryland! |
Renee Denny has been a homeschool fixture in Carroll County for many years. She has five children and has homeschooled them at various points in their educational careers. She also has a big heart for homeschool moms, and tries to provide support and encouragement during difficult schooling days. She came along on the FEC journey in 2017 and has been instrumental in organizing the business aspects of FEC. In addition, she is the familiar, loving face that our children see when they need a little TLC on school days! |
Mr. Will Dettwiler and his family will be joining FEC for the first time this year. Mr. Dettwiler has a background in early childhood and elementary education, so jumped on the chance to take on the role of PE teacher. However, with an opening in Kindergarten, he made the move to full-time Kindergarten teacher! Working with a team of K teachers and assistants, he has quickly become a favorite teacher! |
Aimee Elkins and her family joined FEC in 2020-2021. Aimee began teaching our 5th graders science and then jumped into our High School Biology class to fill a last minute need. She is a gifted science teacher and the students love her. She and her family live in southern PA and her children are enrolled at FEC. |
Veronika Farkas and her family have been at FEC for three years. During that time, Veronika has taught fitness, PE and even dabbled in some drama with FEC kids. She is multi-talented and owns her own fitness/dance studio. She is taking on 7th grade Grammar and Writing this year after working with her own daughter over the years on IEW writing and grammar. |
Leah Grenchik and her family have been at Frederick East for several years and she has used her teaching talents to do some long-term subbing and to volunteer! This year, she will be assisting in our 2nd grade class where I'm sure you will find her helping with various tasks and maybe even doing some teaching!

Mrs. Tina Hare Mrs. Hare will be teaching our 4th graders Grammar and Writing and the 7th Grade History Class this fall. In addition, she will teach 10th Grade History! When she is not in the classroom, she is part of the financial team. Tina has four children. Two attend FEC and two have graduated from high school and are now working and making their place in the world! Tina and her husband live in Carroll County. |
Melissa Kelly and her family are in their second year at FEC and her oldest just graduated from Kindergarten! Melissa and her husband, Justin, are math and science folks and have served as Math Graders this past year to help our math instructors. This year, Melissa will take on the 3rd Grade Science class and bring a love of science to these young students. Melissa currently works for Care Net pregnancy center of Frederick as a nurse, and was previously a mechanical engineer in the nuclear power industry. She is excited to be teaching 3rd grade science this year and has previous teaching experience. Melissa has two children enrolled with FEC, and she and her husband currently reside in Walkersville, MD.

Heather Kelley and her family are joining the FEC community for the first time this year. She has been homeschooling her four children for the past nine years. Many of those years she has taught different grades and courses in co-ops, but before having children, she taught in the public school system for seven years. Although she enjoys teaching, she loves learning even more and considers teaching an opportunity to partner with students along the path of education. The Kelley family resides on a small farm in Lovettsville, Virginia where they garden and raise various animals. In her free time, she loves to read.

The Lahanas Family has been with Frederick East for two years and Brandi is ready to jump in and teach middle school students. She will take on the 8th grade Grammar and Writing and is excited to learn the IEW writing program. The Lahanas Family lives in Frederick County and both of her children are enrolled at Frederick East Classical. |
Jenna Main is the mother of five children and they will be joining FEC for the first time during the 2021-2022 school year. Jenna is gifted in many things, but will be working with our elementary programs in Music and Latin Enhancement. Having children in elementary, middle and high school, she will likely also be found helping out in other areas as well! She is a photographer, so we hope she will share those talents with us as well! She and her family live in Frederick County! Welcome to FEC! |
A graduate of Patrick Henry, Mrs. Joanna Main is the chair of the Latin Department and teaches multiple levels of Latin at FEC. She has three children, all of whom are enrolled at FEC . Mrs. Main has a wonderful grasp of the classical education and the components that work together to train children as they move through the three stages of learning. She and her husband live in Frederick County. |
Pam Mooney, her husband and children live in Frederick County Maryland. Pam has a great love for history and has a Master's Degree in Medieval History. They have been at Frederick East for two years and Pam taught in the Latin and History Departments this year! In addition, she graciously took on the History Department Chair role and worked tirelessly with teachers this year to make sure that history classes were executed without a hitch. Next year, Pam will continue teaching in the History Department as she loves telling the broader story of history to her students!

Todd Offutt has been at FEC since the beginning! He has taught various classes to different grade levels and the students LOVE him! He and his family are from the area and his daughter is one of our high school students. It is nice to have some dads on site during the school day! |
The Roberts Family has been at FEC for two years and Amanda has been a lead nursery worker both of those years. She loves being with our youngest members and can be found spoiling them with stories, rocking them to sleep or playing on the floor with them! Her three children are enrolled at FEC and they are members of Fredericktowne Baptist Church, where they are heavily involved church life. |
Mrs. Laura Stancliff and her family have been at FEC for two years. Mrs. Stancliff took on the role of 4th Grade Math teacher and then added Latin to her resume! She is a favorite teacher among the students. In her free time, she enjoys reading and makes frequent trips to the beach, which is her happy place! |
Mrs. Kelly Wheeler is the all day second grade teacher and current board chair. She has been teaching/training children for most of her adult life and has been a homeschool mom for 15 years, has taught in other co-ops, serves as nursery director at her church and teaches Sunday School and Worship Training. She also served as the Before and After Care Director at Trinity School for nine years. Married for 20 years, she and her husband have three children. Her family attends Good News Presbyterian Church in Frederick. Her favorite verses are: 'For I know the plans I have for you' (Jer. 29:11) and 'Cast all your anxiety on Him for He cares for you.' (1 Peter 5:7).
