FREDERICK EAST CLASSICAL

What Classes Do We Offer?

Pre-Kindergarten - Designed for 3-4 year olds, our youngest members will meet for 2 1/2 hours each Monday and Wednesday morning. We will explore and will be creative through play, reading, learning and crafts! Our goal in preschool is not necessarily to get students ahead of their peers with reading and math. In the classical model of education, the goal is to create 'wonder' at God's creation and to entice/invite students to learn. Parents with Prek-3rd graders are the PRIMARY educators in reading and math since students advance in these skills at different ages.

Kindergarten - Our five year old students will attend Kindergarten all days on Mondays and Wednesdays. We will have just one or two teachers for this class and students will be introduced to science, history, counting, numbers, reading and MORE! Again, parents will spearhead the reading at home and will be supported by activities in the classroom

1st Grade and 2nd Grades - Just as with Kindergarten, we have only one or two teachers work with this grade. Students will be exposed to history, science, math skills and will pursue writing skills, art skills, music and MORE! Parents will continue to work with children at home as they learn reading and math.

3rd-8th Grades - Students will have multiple instructors and will have classes in Latin, Grammar/Writing, History, Science, Math and will even be offered an 'elective' option. One highlight of this cooperative is that families (and K-6 in the cooperative) will learn history together each year. Therefore, each year will highlight a particular historical period, allowing families to create projects together, read together and take field trips together! The history schedule is below:

2017-2018 - Ancients (9th-12th also Ancients)
2018-2019 - K-6 - Medieval; 7th - Early American; 8th - Late American; 9th/10th - Medieval; 11th/12th - Government and US History
2019-2020 - K-6 - Late Medieval/Reformation; 7th Early American; 8th - Late American; 9th/10th - Ancients; 11th-12th World History
2020-2021 - K-6 - Modern; 7th Early American; 8th - Late American; 9th - Ancients, 10th - Medieval; 11th - Reformation; 12th - Modern

9th-12th Grades - In addition to the above 'great books' program,  there will be math, science, Logic and Latin offered. Beginning in 2019-2020, High School Seniors will complete a year-long Thesis Project.
