Our Mission

Our Mission at Frederick East Classical involves three C’s:

1. First, we are Christian. We will seek to be a community of believers that work together to educate our children, but will also pray for one another, speak truthfully and respectfully to build one another up in the faith. We will focus on the person of Jesus and His teaching as we grow in virtue and Christian character. 

2. We are ‘Classical’…Susan Wise Bauer explains:
Classical education depends on a three-part process of training the mind. The early years of school are spent in absorbing facts, systematically laying the foundations for advanced study. In the middle grades, students learn to think through arguments. In the high school years, they learn to express themselves. This classical pattern is called the trivium.


A classical education is more than simply a pattern of learning, though. Classical education is language-focused; learning is accomplished through words, written and spoken, rather than through images (pictures, videos, and television). The classical education is, above all, systematic — in direct contrast to the scattered, unorganized nature of so much secondary education. This systematic, rigorous study has two purposes.

Rigorous study develops virtue in the student.  Aristotle defined virtue as the ability to act in accordance to what one knows to be right. The virtuous man (or woman) can force himself to do what he knows to be right, even when it runs against his inclinations. The classical education continually asks a student to work against his baser inclinations (laziness, or the desire to watch another half hour of TV) in order to reach a goal — mastery of a subject.
 
3. We are ‘Cooperative’ – We will work together to support one another, teach our children and guarantee the day-to-day operation of Frederick East Classical. By our love for one another, we hope that the world will see our faith and love for Christ.
 
John 17:20-23 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—  I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
